Dr Sebastian Brown

Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) 

Sebastian is a doctor in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine with a rich history of innovation. He founded SageTech, developing technology for recycling anaesthetic agents, and led technical work for Swagelok in the UK ventilator challenge. As the founder of PenMed, he developed a modular ventilation concept and has expertise in mechanical engineering, electronic hardware, software, control systems, and medical device regulatory affairs. Sebastian oversees company strategy, funding, and consultancy activities in translational MedTech and clinical design input.

Giles Ashbee

Chief Technical Officer (CTO) 

Giles is an experienced design engineer and manager, having led multiple teams and projects at Dyson. He has extensive experience in product ownership, range planning, and technology pipeline development. As CTO, Giles is responsible for delivering the first integrated rig from prototype through to production.

David Whitehouse

Commercial Director

David is a seasoned business leader with a track record in healthcare, having held senior commercial positions at J&J, Janssen, Baxter, and Genzyme. He has led market development, strategy, and market access across a wide range of products and services, including regional product launches across EMEA. David has also worked in medical innovation at the University of Exeter, driving translational and applied research. He focuses on commercial and company strategies to optimise the exploitation of medical devices.

Barry Corlett

Hardware Lead

Barry has held senior engineering roles in mobile telecommunications, Apple, Nest, Microsoft, and Dyson, where he was the global head of electronics. As an investor in PenMed, Barry leads the electronics team and collaborates on project management for production and company strategy.

Ben Mundy

Mechanical & Prototyping Lead  

Benjamin has a background in CNC production management and freelance design engineering, primarily in the marine sector. He has also worked as a Knowledge Exchange Coordinator and Fabrication Laboratory Manager, providing technical support and managing industrial research projects. As Lead Mechanical Engineer at Peninsula Medical Technologies, Benjamin focuses on device and component design and prototyping.

Louis King

Control Systems Lead 

Louis holds a Masters in Robotics and has conducted research into assistive technologies for ALS sufferers. He has developed wearable technologies and worked as a Senior Design Engineer at Dyson. As a mechatronic engineer for PenMed, Louis focuses on delivering safety-critical electronics

gareth willetts

Control Systems Engineer

Gareth has an MSc in Mathematical Sciences and a PhD in control systems. He has extensive skills in Matlab/Simulink, control theory, and growing expertise in C++ and firmware. As a Control Systems Engineer, Gareth develops control systems for ventilators and integrates them with firmware.

NICK AGER

Software Lead

With over 30 years of professional software development experience, Nick has focused on MedTech for the past decade. With a proven track record of delivering complex systems with small, highly productive teams, Nick is experienced working under ISO 13485 and IEC 62304 regulatory standards. A hands-on developer with broad experience across the stack — from embedded systems to mobile, web, and server-side development, using a wide range of languages and platforms.

Jason Knight

Mechanical Engineer

Jason is a mechanical engineer with 11 years of industrial experience and has managed fab-lab facilities. He brings a wealth of practical knowledge and expertise to the team.

Corinne ashbee

Design & User Research

Corinne is from a product design background, with a specialism in consumer & user centric research over the last 15 years. Corinne is passionate about engaging end users and clinicians from early stages of any innovation project to ensure real world success.
